Chemical products are very common substances that are currently used in the production of basic goods such as toothpaste or more specialized products such as fungicides in the agricultural sector. They cover a very wide market, so it is not surprising that the total amount of chemical shipments worldwide is worth approximately 5,000 million dollars.
The food industry, automotive, construction, oil, among others, depend largely on the chemical sector, because these substances are essential for the transformation of their products. A clear example is agricultural chemistry that allows, through the use of insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and fertilizers, a more efficient development of crops and therefore a higher quality of them. This leads to the chemical industry to be very strong worldwide. For example, Bayer that is a German company that ventures into the chemical-pharmaceutical market and whose profits were around 4,500 million euros in 2017. In terms of employment, the five main chemical companies of the planet employ around 367 thousand people, thus influencing the economy of many families and many countries.
Organic chemistry is also very influential in the global economy, since it is based on compounds derived from natural resources such as oil, gas and coal. And it is that raw materials, especially minerals and precious stones, stimulate world finances not only for their energy contribution but also for their capacity for transformation. Petrochemical derivatives such as plastic, dyes, detergents, coatings, among others, which have a daily use both in homes and companies, are a small sample of the importance of this sector in the world’s economy.
