Energy sources have always been present in the environment and mankind has always sought ways to take advantage of them for its own benefit. The sun, air, water and fossil fuels are different energy sources. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas are a great concern for the environment since their extraction and exploitation can jeopardize the sustainable development of the planet.
Nowadays fossil fuels represent the main source of energy of the planet and for this reason the mining industry, specialized in the extraction, transformation and distribution of oil, coal and gas weight a lot in the world’s economy.
In 2014, United States main energy sources came from fossil fuels, with oil being the principal one. The first problem with these fuels is that they are non-renewable and are destined to disappear. The second problem, no less important, is that its extraction and use considerably affects the environment emitting carbon dioxide. Among the companies that issued the largest amounts of greenhouse gases between 1988 and 2015 are the coal extractors in China, the oil companies of Saudi Arabia, Gazprom and the ExxonMobil. All immersed in the fossil fuel business.
These types of practices certainly are aggressive with nature causing climate change. That is why current policies are persuading the industry for sustainable energy development, through renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, hydroelectric and biomass.
